In Nepal, shamanism is a living practice, deeply woven into mountain culture. Every August, on the full moon, shamans from across the country walk to remote Himalayan lakes to renew their calling, and Gosaikunda, in the Langtang region, stands among the most sacred of these gathering places.
This seven-day trek follows that same path — through rhododendron forests, along dramatic ridgelines above 4,600m, and up to Gosaikunda itself at 4,380m, believed to be the mountain abode of Shiva. On arrival, we witness a rare and powerful sight: night-long shamanic rituals, chanting, drumming and dance, as apprentices work toward becoming fully realised shamans under the full moon sky.
This trek offers genuine cultural depth alongside its extraordinary Himalayan views. It is a rare window into Nepal's living spiritual culture, timed to a remarkable festival that remains a hidden gem for most travellers. We return via quiet villages and a hilltop Shiva temple, carrying with us a side of Nepal defined by devotion, ritual and belief.
Seven days, one full moon, and a spiritual tradition thriving in the high Himalayas.
